A couple of days ago, I took three old friend's senior pictures! Now, each one was gorgeous and I am so glad that I got to shoot them! I used to go to school with them but hadn't talked to them in a couple of years when they asked me to do their pictures, so I was a little shocked! Needless to say, the pictures turned out great!

I recently had the pleasure of taking my childhood best friend's senior pictures! We adventured all over and around the Nooksack river. It was fun, refreshing, nice. It was almost like we were back in 4th grade, only with boobs and boyfriends. But it couldn't help but remind me how things never really go the way you expect them to. I expected us to go to high school together, prom, get our senior pictures together. All of what I thought our friendship would become, never did. But, I still love her. And I love my life right now, so I guess it's okay. :)

Oh, baby! So much Zebra!

So, this is my 8th photoshoot with this adorable little baby, we've been trying to do them every month! She's almost 10 months old! It's always so different taking pictures of her every month, she's becoming more and more of a poser and loveeees the camera (most of the time.) Every month, we do a series of shots involving this zebra blanket, whether it's used as a blanket, a backdrop, you name it. :) This might be my favorite shoot with her yet! Go baby Nayeli!

I had a maternity shoot a few days ago with my best friend. She is so awesome! She's on bedrest right now so it was pushing it to be out at a park, but she did awesome. :) She wanted to do some pictures since her lil boy's projected arival date is getting closer and closer! His first due date was December 6, but now her doctors are saying that he will be here within the next two weeks!

Overall, it was a very fun and relaxed time, I think that the pictures turned out well!

Marilyn Monroe & Vintage cameras.

Marilyn, I'm not an obsessed fan. I consider myself to be a fascinated observer. I find her life story just so intriguing! She was truly a beautiful person. I want to continue to collect her for years to come. Her movies are all wonderful to watch. I am most taken by her early films, where she was still largely unknown to the world, but eye-catching nonetheless. Ask me about her sometime, I'll talk your ear off.

Vintage cameras, amazing. When I hold one, I can just imagine looking through someone else's eyes. Someone from 1902 taking a picture of their child in a meadow with my brownie or someone capturing a couple's love with my 1962 Pentax. The words I keep repeating are "Wow, this is real photography." I can't help myself from sharing my love of this with others, and maybe hinting to them that if they ever see an old camera at a garage sale to get it for me. :P

Weeks ago, I would have scoffed the idea, thinking those who follow this life-style and diet are tree-hugging veg-head weirdos. But, it took but a few minutes to decide I needed to change. While doing so, I didn't really realize what was happening. I have taken the plunge to try and live without eating processed food, bread, or drinking pop. Ultimately, I am trying to stick to organic foods. And, just in 5 days I have began feeling so much healthier and better about myself! I have had bread a few times, and allow myself crackers and cereal.

I never thought I would eat like this. I didn't think that simply cutting out processed foods would even make a slight difference! But it has! I've been smiling more, disliking my appearance less, and wanting to get out and do stuff more. And now I feel like telling everyone to do the same! I will never be vegetarian/vegan though! I allow myself turkey and chicken, cause it's too good to cut out!

(Wanna know a secret? Not all organic foods are gross and expensive :) They are good and most cost just as much as processed food!)

A month ago, I would not have been confident enough to let my mom do a photo-shoot of me, but I feel good enough now :) And don't hate the way I look anymore!

So here's to a new self!

My dream. My goal for life is always changing. When I was a little girl dancing in my room with my best friend, I was going to be a singer. That's it. In my mind there were no other options. I was going to be a famous singer. I was also going to marry Jesse McCartney. When I was 11, my friend Maddy and I changed our dreams to match. We were going to move away to Canada and go to the Art Institute of Vancouver, and we'd make money playing guitar and singing on the streets. After school, we would become tattoo artists with our own shop. The art institute remained my dream until I was 13. When I was 13, I had another plan. By this point, I was going to be a graphic designer, in the advertisement field.I was to start my own advertising agency.Yep, I had it all figured out. This was how it was going to be! Until I discovered my love for writing, that is. Up until be being 15, I wanted to be a famous author/poet. I loved writing, and I still do. But, once again I've changed my mind. Because when life goes by, dreams change. For a brief 2 months, I had my mind set on being a jewelry maker. But, that went as quickly as it came. Along with writing, I still have a great love for jewelry making.

Now...on to my latest dream for the future.

I want to be a children's photographer. Not the kind with a lame studio and cheesy staged smiles, but the kind of photography that captures genuine smiles in real and comfortable environments. I have just had such a joy for taking pictures of kids and babies lately. That's not all. At the same time, I want to own and run a bakery. I want a cute and comfortable little bakery with my favorite baked goodies :)

What will my dream be next time? Only time can tell....

I suppose sometimes I take it for granted, and don't truly realize that until the feeling of being unappreciated creeps out from the darkness. But, I've started to feel that way again recently. Not only appreciated, but like I mean something to people.I've started to try and transform myself (baby steps, Kayla. Baby steps...) yet again and have started seeing things in a new light.

Not anything to drastic has happened, but...this month, I:

Learned my best friend is pregnant
Had a great Easter with family
Sang at a funeral
Improved my French
Finally got pictures edited and put on a CD from the wedding that I photographed and my mother directed pictures for.

   I have had a rather good evening, despite the gross and dreary day. I made a lemon passion cake, which was made of four separate parts; the cake, lemon mousse, sweet cream, and whipped cream. It took quite a while to make, and i despised waiting for the cake to cool. So, I took a few pictures of myself and discovered settings on my mother's camera that work well for me.

   Oh! On a side note, I made the necklace that I'm wearing in the first and third pictures :)

Find a way to smile and never let it get awayyyy :D

I dislike it when people hang on to the bad things in life and focus on them, rather than seeing the beauty of it. How hard is it really to smile now and again? How hard is it to look before you and see the people that love you and just want you to be happy? I don't find it that hard :) If it weren't for the wonderful people in my life, i wouldn't be happy. But because of them, I am always happy! (most of the time, anyway.)

With that aside, I am in the best mood today! I made a necklace yesterday that I think came out rather well, I even made the pendant on it! :D Maybe I will take pics of it sometime, but I need a model :P Yesterday I also reoragnized all of my beads!

There's been something that's been on my mind a lot within the past few days. When I started this whole jewelry making thing back in december-ish, I never would have thought I would come as far as I have. And, I'm not saying that I'm some hot-shot big jewelry maker now, because I am no where even near that, but with the help of my best friend, the guidance of my mom, and the support of my boyfriend along with friends and family, I feel like I have really gone further than I ever thought I would.

It began with one inspiration. One simple little idea that Shellbee and I really wanted to try. I would have never thought that I would have accumulated so many supplies either! I am running out of space for it all! So far, I have filled my pretty chest that my mom got me for Christmas, and a box with a bunch of lil boxes and lids and containers in it.

I'm actually feeling really good about this! One of my problem area's though, is that if I do choose to sell any, I have no idea what to sell them for! I find myself aiming pretty low ($3-$7). I have been told that the one's I have on Etsy right now, are under-priced. But people still aren't buying, so why raise the price?

Today, I made a necklace and bracelet combo for my mother's dear friend Jen, who is pretty awesome. She reminds me so much of Shellbee! I had to take a quick trip to the store to get a wider variety (size-wise) of beads for Jen's necklace and future ones. Soon after I was finished with her bracelet, I finally finished my sissy Maddy's bracelet (after failing once before) and got it packaged up all cute-like and wrote a little note to go along with it :)

I hope that soon I can learn to work with wire so I can move along with the key project! But, I need a wire working book or something, I always fail! XP

Somehow, I came across a really great french pop singer named Yelle! I know what some of the words mean in her songs :D Her music is very catchy and addicting! And off of a video of her's that I found, I found some really interesting dancers dancing to one of her songs! They make me giggle :D

Teenage Ignorance.

Am I completely crazy for hating teenage ignorance with a passion? I also hate it when people have excuses for everything, and when teenagers use the excuse "I'm just being a teenager" or act like they're so freaking superior and rant about how they are an "adult" and can do whatever they want. `So many teenagers that I know act in such selfish ways! It's all about them and they don't really care about how their actions will affect they people that they claim to care about so much. For example, because of a friend's actions and carelessness, little do they know just how soon things may change...

{Venting over, please excuse my complaints.}

Day One of the Challenge!

My fingers are cut up and messed up with super glue, but it was worth it to make a bracelet and two necklaces that I think are rather pretty. It's kind of difficult working with hemp cord, but it ends up looking so good! My trick for keeping the ends from fraying was periodically using bowstring wax on the end of it, and it worked wonderfully! It also gets frustrating working with beads in only three colors, but it has always ended up looking pretty.

Anyways, Shellbee and I ended up doing challenge number six before the other five! But, that's okay! We will go back to the other ones next! :) I will post some pictures of the bracelets tomorrow as soon as I get the chance!

Since we got a project from the challenge done today, that makes today the official starting date of our challenge! Which also makes May 21, 2010 our deadline! Which is a month after Shellbee's 18th birthday and ten days before my 16th! Wowza!

We have officially accepted the jewelry-making challenge that i mentioned in this blog post! We will be trying new things and expanding our knowledge! Hopefully we will begin this challenge at the beginning of next week! And when we do, we will give ourselves exactly 3 months to successfully complete all 10 projects.

Of course, in order to prove our commitment and faithfulness to this challenge, we will post pictures of the completed projects as we do them! This should be interesting :D

That song has been stuck in my head for two days straight!It just makes you feel good about yourself because the lyrics are true. We always blame ourselves, but we shoudn't, we're never alone, and most of us don't know just how beautiful we are.

Today has been a pretty good day. I have gotten many things done, only one of which was on my to-do list from Thursday. I made a neckalce for my sissy who lives in Missouri, I haven't seen her for almost two years :( I spent about4-5 hours on it and endured two painful headaches, but it looks great :D Probably one of my best yet! When i was done with that, I did a quick little necklace for myself which consisted of a long-ish chain, a clasp, and two charms (One saying "Jacob" and one saying "Kayla".

Before any of the necklace making, I spent the morning/afternoon at my old neighbor's house. I took many pictures! I just love how the lighting is and how photogenic her daughter and her daughter's friend are. Of course, I will post a few pictures just for grins and giggles :)

Mmm, how I love the smell of muffins in the oven

So, I think i have found yet another love, baking. That's all i have wanted to do lately! And with no more bottles to do bottle necklaces and no tools to do my other project, baking has been a good thing to fill my free time up with. In three days (only one full day) I have made one cake and five different types of muffins, all from scratch. I made an orange chiffon cake, peanut butter and chocolate muffins, two types of blueberry and yogurt muffins, a weird sugar kind, and Nutella and peanut butter muffins. I know that they are rather simple, but I still love making them!

When I get the chance to, I'm going to make panda bread! I'm going to use an awesome recipe originally written in Japanese. (No, panda bread is not made out of pandas :P )As a matter of fact, all of the recipes that I have used so far were originally written in either Chinese or Japanese :D

(BTW! It looks like me and my best friend are going to move forth with the challenge! But, we'll see!)

I've decided to give myself (and possibly my jewelry making partner-in-crime) a challenge. What kind of challenge can be given to two teenage jewelry-maker wanna-bes? If the challenge is accepted by my oh-so lovely friend, we will try to get through 10 jewelry making projects in three months. I say three months because that gives a couple of jobless teenagers time to get money in between projects.

Here is the line-up of projects that we might be faced with. (Least challenging to most challenging) Note: 2 will be made of each. One by me, one by Shelby

1. Soda bottle coin purse
2. Soda can necklace
3. Scrabble necklace (not the normal ones you see on Etsy.com! These are different :D)
4. Time in a bottle necklace (hard to explain XP)
5. First try at making headbands
6. First try at bracelets!
7. Fist try at earrings!
8. First try at ring-making!
9. Wire and real skeleton key necklace
10. Polymer clay necklace

Many firsts and challenges await us if we are willing to accept this challenge and juggle it with our school and everyday life.

Mess Making and Jewelry making go together

I never quite fail to make a mess while making things. Today, I spent a few hours playing around with those liquid marbles and somehow food coloring came into the mix, and well before you knew it the counter was covered in orange, yellow, and red blotches.

Of course all this was done while my dad talked to me in his Russian accent. I made some pretty cool neckalces! Well,pendants for necklaces. I still need chains to make them perfect! But, unfortuantly the chains that i've had my eye on just sold out!

By poor cat has been so needy lately, never stopping her meowing at the back door when she's outside. But, i think that i am the only person in my house that feels pitty for her! So, i always let her in :)

Back to sipping tea, making lists, and making necklaces! :D

Venturing out?

            Jewelry making is actually quite a great way to spend extra time when you're educated at home. I have been doing a lot of it and have thought of many ideas recently. It does add up though!
           I have been making Fairy Dust necklaces and necklaces along those lines with my best friend. We just started and surprisingly sold one already! I am very proud of us.
          We are sharing an Etsy store with my parents for now, although that could change in the future. I just want to learn about making things and about channeling my creativity! Don’t we all?
